ALL ADULTS HERE by Emma Straub – ** GIVEAWAY CLOSED **

I first fell in love with writer, Emma Straub’s writing in her novel, THE VACATIONERS. Now she’s back with an equally smart and funny novel called ALL ADULTS HERE(RiverheadBooks).

When Astrid Strick witnesses a school bus accident in the center of town, it jostles loose a repressed memory from her young parenting days decades earlier. Suddenly, Astrid realizes she was not quite the parent she thought she’d been to her three, now-grown children. But to what consequence?

Astrid’s youngest son is drifting and unfocused, making parenting mistakes of his own. Her daughter is pregnant yet struggling to give up her own adolescence. And her eldest seems to measure his adult life according to standards no one else shares. But who gets to decide, so many years later, which long-ago lapses were the ones that mattered? Who decides which apologies really count? It might be that only Astrid’s thirteen-year-old granddaughter and her new friend really understand the courage it takes to tell the truth to the people you love the most.

In All Adults Here, Emma Straub’s unique alchemy of wisdom, humor, and insight come together in a deeply satisfying story about adult siblings, aging parents, high school boyfriends, middle school mean girls, the lifelong effects of birth order, and all the other things that follow us into adulthood, whether we like them to or not.

Emma Straub is the New York Times-bestselling author of three other novels The Vacationers, Modern Lovers, Laura Lamont’s Life in Pictures, and the short story collection Other People We Married. Her books have been published in twenty countries. She and her husband own Books Are Magic, an independent bookstore in Brooklyn, New York.

  1. My favorite is our annual Girlz beach camping trip for the past 10 years! No men or kids allowed. Two RVs full, about 10 of us for a week. True vacation! This year only 4 and one RV for a coastal drive winging it…but turned out ok

  7. My daughter married a Frenchman and the wedding was in his hometown in France about 30 years ago. Not only was the wedding a celebration, but the grooms extended, large family, hadn’t been together in many years, so the wedding was a good reason for a family reunion. The party following the wedding was in a chateau that had been converted into a venue for events. Two lambs were being spit-roasted near the chateau for our meal. It was a marvelous occasion, a beautiful day and unique experience.

  8. My favorite vacation was this past month in Etna, CA. I had my 4 siblings and my 92 year old mom there and lots of nieces and nephews. It was bittersweet because my brother in law was dying of pancreatic cancer and 3 weeks after we left, he passed away. It was great to spend some time with him. There were 27 of us there and 17 who couldn’t make it.
