In Andrew Mayne’s new novel, THE GIRL BENEATH THE SEA (Thomas&Mercer), Sloan McPherson is a badass. She comes from a family of scandalous treasure hunters, but has chosen a different path.

Something is in the water.”

She’s an auxilary police officer, but not just the regular kind. She’s the go-to diver when the Lauderdale Shores PD need a diver to recover evidence in canals. There are thousands of canals and enough crimes happening to keep her busy. One day she’s on a dive to find artifacts for her Archeology class. But while underwater a woman is killed and the body tossed into the canal Sloan is diving in. Sloan retrieves the body and calls for the police, but not only are the cops there; DEA, FBI and other jurisdictions all show up. The time of death is placed when Sloan was underwater. When Sloan packs up to leave, she realizes her driver’s license is missing, meaning the killer stole it. She recognizes she’s stepped into something bigger than a regular DOA and the killer knows who she is.

Mayne takes us on a thrilling ride as Sloan is stalked by an assassin and drug cartel, while under the watchful eye of cops who know the family she comes from. Mayne’s descriptions are so realistic I felt as if I was on a dive with Sloan. He has created a strong, smart and sarcastic protagonist in McPherson – a tough woman! I Love her and I think you will too!

  1. I have not gone diving nor do I have a desire to (maybe in a boat but not in dive gear). I don’t like water and I have sinus issues that being on water aggravate (congestion causes dizziness) 😦

  2. I have never been diving. I think it would be very cool to see all the fish and all the colors and coral. However, I don’t swim very well so it does frighten me.

  3. I have never gone diving before but would love to. I would love to see all the marine life and experience what is below. It would probably be scary but I love new adventures.

  4. I have never been on a dive, though I did go over 100’ deep in a submarine. I don’t think I would enjoy it, as I would worry about running out of air, snagging the equipment on something, etc. But I love sea turtles and would love to see them in their natural habitat!

  5. I have never been diving, but I would love to. I love to watch videos and movies showing diving footage. It looks so isolated from the outside world.

  6. I have never gone diving. I don’t swim so it would be a real challenge for me. I can imagine how beautiful it must be seeing all the sea life.

  7. First and last time diving ever was in St. Kitts, had a panic attack, never dove again. I am much better suited to sitting in a beach chair.

  8. I have never been diving. Although I think it would be very beautiful to experience, I would constantly be worrying that something would happen to my oxygen tank.

  9. I’ve always wanted to but never had the money for lessons/equipment or the time as a single parent. But I have snorkeled quite a bit (it’s not expensive) & that was a wonderful experience.

  10. I have never gone diving. There is something unsettling to me thinking about the dark depths of the ocean and all the creatures living in it.

    Thanks for the chance!
