Kimmery Martin’s sophomore effort, THE ANTIDOTE FOR EVERYTHING (Penguin/RandomeHouse) is already getting rave reviews. In this whip-smart and timely novel, two doctors travel a surprising path when they must choose between treating their patients and keeping their jobs.

Georgia Brown’s profession as a urologist requires her to interact with plenty of naked men, but her romantic prospects have fizzled. The most important person in her life is her friend Jonah Tsukada, a funny, empathetic family medicine doctor who works at the same hospital in Charleston, South Carolina and who has become as close as family to her.

Just after Georgia leaves the country for a medical conference, Jonah shares startling news. The hospital is instructing doctors to stop providing medical care for transgender patients. Jonah, a gay man, is the first to be fired when he refuses to abandon his patients. Stunned by the predicament of her closest friend, Georgia’s natural instinct is to fight alongside him. But when her attempts to address the situation result in incalculable harm, both Georgia and Jonah find themselves facing the loss of much more than their careers.

  1. I think we have to go to the Dr. whether we like it or not, we need to know what is going on with our bodies especially if we are not feeling well, our bodies know better and they give us signs that something isn’t right. Going to the Dr. is necessary for our health. I think it is very important to get a yearly Health checkup. I appreciate Doctors.

  2. I don’t mind going to the dr. Went yesterday for a thyroid check up but I’m not one that goes to the dr. for every little thing.

  3. I hate having to go to the doctor because of the medical costs. But, unfortunately with my medical issues I have no choice. I do procrastinate until I am either in a lot of pain or something is really wrong. I also hate taking medication and always try to find another solution first. But I am happy my primary care physician. He does take good care of me. It’s hard to find a doctor these days that will take the time to listen. Healthcare has changed significantly over the years.

  4. I only go to the doctor when I really need to. I’m due for a couple of preventative exams. I’ve procrastinated. I shouldn’t do that.

  8. Ha! Actually went to Dr today. I usually am in and out, not to bad. Today I wanted to go to receptionist and have her schedule an appointment with me, at home on her own time. It’s all hurry up and wait, unfortunately we have to go. Just sometimes very frustrating.

  9. I’m completely comfortable going to the doctor. I’m a nurse, so I usually know exactly what I want and don’t have too many questions. I just need a doctor that will work with me. And i’m lucky to have pretty good insurance.
