SOME LEGACIES ARE BEST LEFT BEHIND …

Set in North Carolina in 1960 and brimming with authenticity and grit, THE MOONSHINER’S DAUGHTER (Kensington) evokes the singular life of sixteen-year-old Jessie Sasser, a young woman determined to escape her family’s past…

Generations of Sassers have made moonshine in the Brushy Mountains of Wilkes County, North Carolina. Their history is recorded in a leather-bound journal that belongs to Jessie Sasser’s daddy, but Jessie wants no part of it. As far as she’s concerned, moonshine caused her mother’s death a dozen years ago.

Her father refuses to speak about her mama, or about the day she died. But Jessie has a gnawing hunger for the truth—one that compels her to seek comfort in food. Yet all her self-destructive behavior seems to do is feed what her school’s gruff but compassionate nurse describes as the “monster” inside Jessie.

Resenting her father’s insistence that moonshining runs in her veins, Jessie makes a plan to destroy the stills, using their neighbors as scapegoats. Instead, her scheme escalates an old rivalry and reveals long-held grudges. As she endeavors to right wrongs old and new, Jessie’s loyalties will bring her to unexpected revelations about her family, her strengths—and a legacy that may provide her with the answers she has been longing for.

  1. I’m excited for this book! My New Year’s Resolution is floundering a bit due to health issues. However, it’s about the long term and not the short, so I’ve got time and I’ll keep moving forward!

  2. I don’t make resolutions. I always think I’ll lose weight, exercise more, etc but I don’t follow through. However I do push myself to be kind and positive.

  5. I am participating in a few FB “book clubs” to get me out of a book slump for the New Year. It’s not exactly a resolution, but I’ve already read a book out of my normal genres and I really enjoyed it! This book is one of Kensington’s January picks. I would love to own a copy!

  6. I bought myself a 2020 Wordsearch Calendar for Christmas. I thought to myself this is one resolution I can keep all year. Boy, was I wrong. I did it for 10 days before other things interfered with my 5 minutes of me time. Hopefully this is something I can fix easily. I would love to win this book to read. Thanks for the chance!

  10. Well… mine was basically look forward not backward…. but then I found myself preparing a memorial for my almost 102 year old mother in law. So I was looking backward ….WAAAAY backward for the first part of the year. It was an honor though for such an amazing woman! BTW. I REALLY can’t wait to read this book! ❤️

  12. I didn’t make resolutions. I did make goals. One is stay calm, at work. So far so good, I’m getting the hang of it instead of frustrated and unable to complete tasks. Two, is save money for a few small road trips for author signings. I will let you know how that works out!

  14. I set mire of a goal than a resolution. My goal is to eliminate refined sugar from my diet. Let’s just say that I’m determined, but still working on it.

  17. I don’t actually do resolutions. I am always evolving and working on some kind of improvement, adjusting and redefining my goals as I go. I do plan on getting some writing in this year though, even if it cuts into my reading time. I have some stories to tell!
