THE LAST BOOK PARTY (HenryHolt) is a forceful tale of ambition and romance, set in the publishing world of 1980’s New York and the timeless beaches of Cape Cod.

In the summer of 1987, 25-year-old Eve Rosen is an aspiring writer languishing in a low-level assistant job, unable to shake the shadow of growing up with her brilliant brother. With her professional ambitions floundering, Eve jumps at the chance to attend an early summer gathering at the Cape Cod home of famed New Yorker writer Henry Grey and his poet wife, Tillie.

Dazzled by the guests and her burgeoning crush on the hosts’ artistic son, Eve lands a new job as Henry Grey’s research assistant and an invitation to Henry and Tillie’s exclusive and famed “Book Party”― where attendees dress as literary characters. But by the night of the party, Eve discovers uncomfortable truths about her summer entanglements and understands that the literary world she so desperately wanted to be a part of is not at all what it seems.

A page-turning, coming-of-age story, written with a lyrical sense of place and a profound appreciation for the sustaining power of books, Karen Dukess’s The Last Book Party shows what happens when youth and experience collide and what it takes to find your own voice.

  1. My book club is a group of women from the neighborhood where I used to live. We are a diverse, yet compatible group that meets monthly except during the summer.

  2. We have a very active book club of 14 women who meet monthly. Not everyone shows up for every meeting, but we always have a good group and a lively discussion. Everyone always reads the books.

  8. I am in a book club of one, just me! Most of my reading is done late at night, when everyone else is in the house is asleep. I’m pretty sure my book loving friends don’t want to have book club that late at night!

    1. Bookcluub? Bookclubs!
I am a member of an FB book club that has been reading together for 14 months. We are 30+, random mix of women with similar tastes and great discussions.
My next FB book club, I administer. It includes about 25 Phi Mu sisters from Clarkson University. It is a nice way to share time together after 20+yrs of sisterhood.
I love popping in and reading with Hasty Virtual Book Club. Quite frequently the author of the monthly read is live with us.
The rest of the time I jump around from Simon&Schuster, Bookforward, and recently I’ve tried out The Book Club Girls.
And, lucky me, I enjoy every single group and all for different reasons. I feel blessed!
