It’s a new year for SparkPress with the kick-off of BookSparks’ new Winter Reading Challenge 2018  #WRC2018  .  This year we kick off with author Amanda Staubber’s, debut novel, MATCH MADE in MANHATTAN (SkyhorsePublishing). It’ll have you thinking twice about modern dating!

MATCH MADE IN MANHATTAN (SkyhorsePublishing) by Amanda Stauffer is fun, funny, clever and a story you’ll finish reading with a big smile on your face. That’s always a good thing, right?

After two intense, dead-end relationships, serial monogamist Alison finds herself confused, lonely, and drastically out of touch with the world of modern dating. Not one to give up, she finds herself signing up for an online dating site, promising she’ll keep an open mind. She’s also made a kind of pants pledge – they’re not coming off until she’s made a connection with someone.

On one date, she’s dumped before the first kiss; on another, she meets a tattooed folk singer turned investment banker, an undercover agent who tracks illegal exotic animals, and dozens of other colorful, captivating personalities, that will have you wondering if there’s just ONE normal guy for her.

Then she meets Luke.

MATCH MADE IN MANHATTAN will relate to anyone currently in the dating scene or has survived it. Protected by a group of girlfriends all in the same boat, Alison finds the courage and humor to carry on. Great girlfriends – we can all relate to that!

Amanda Stauffer is a graduate of Yale and Columbia Universities who works as an architectural conservator, restoring historic landmarks across the country. When she grew frustrated with New York City’s dating scene, Amanda headed to Her experiences provided her with a lifetime of warm and fuzzy memories, a few friends, and an abundance of material if she ever decided to write a book or pursue a career in comedy.

Amanda is a fan of Italian neorealist cinema, mojitos, and—well, you can just read her protagonist’s Match profile on page 20 of this book, because Alison lifted heavily from Amanda’s own profile. An erstwhile expat who has lived in Bangalore, Sicily, and Paris, Amanda currently lives in Manhattan, where she is busy writing her second book.

Thanks to BookSparks and Skyhorse Publishing, we have one copy of MATCH MADE in MANHATTAN to giveaway. Just tell us about your most memorable date. We’ll announce a winner soon.

  1. i was picked up at my townhouse in a limo, taken to a beautiful small town close by, and taken for a wonderful meal & ride in the hills aboard the dinner train. it was all done as a surprise & knocked a few things off my “bucket list”.

  2. A memorable date with a young man many years ago who was such a special person. he took me out and wined and dined me and a deep conversation ensued. Unforgettable.

  3. Went out with a guy who I had been crushing on for a very long time and once out with him all I could think about was someone else. I asked him to take me home and once he did, I met up with the other guy.

  4. Best date? The first one where a friend hooked me up with a fellow student in the same dorm we lived in. We went to a movie–I think it was E.T., and then to a donut shop to get a drink and donuts. We married a little less than a year later.

  5. I really can’t think of one date that really stands out in my mind. Spending time with someone you care about should be special enough.

  6. Probably Senior Prom. It was a group thing for a bunch of us who didn’t have dates or got stood up. It was a fun time. Thanks for the chance! 🙂

  7. I went on a date with a guy in college who was very sweet but there was no love connection. However, I loved the salad I got on the date….and have made it at home many times since that date, 25 years later. Haha!
