“Daddy says Mommy is clumsy.”

JUST BETWEEN US (St.Martin’sPress) by Rebecca Drake takes off at breakneck speed the day Alison sees “that nasty bruise” on Heather’s wrist. She shares her suspicions with Julie and Sarah, compelling all three to investigate what looks like domestic violence.

Alison, Julie, Sarah, Heather – four friends all living the suburban ideal. But each of them has a dirty little secret, and hidden behind the veneer of their perfect lives is a crime and a mystery that will consume them all.

JUST BETWEEN US is a well written book, but it asks readers to take a HUGE leap to really get into it. Now maybe this is just me, but I haven’t had a friend that I was willing to go to jail for. These characters are not rocket scientists, so knowing that helped me to finish the novel. The ending is definitely unexpected, but the prose are drawn out.

Of course, there are many people who already love and will love this novel, saying it’s the best thing they’ve read in … forever. Suspense thrillers are all en vogue now. I’m just not that person. Maybe I’m too literal. Maybe the holidays stressed me out. All I know is whether or not you or I enjoy the book, it’s a huge hit.

Rebecca’s own words:

I’ve always been intrigued by the dark side, by the potential for evil that lurks in all of us, by what triggers seemingly average people to commit brutal and heinous acts against other human beings. However, I’m equally fascinated by the capacity for goodness and kindness that also dwells within us, amazed and inspired by the stories of ordinary people who confront cruelty with courage or choose compassion over vengeance.

For me, it always comes back to the matter of choice. In all my writing I’m interested in exploring those turning points in our lives that make us the people we are and sometimes, for better or worse, the people we never thought we’d be.

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press, we have one copy of JUST BETWEEN US to giveaway. Just tell us what your New Year resolution was and if you’ve stuck to it so far? JUST BETWEEN US is being published today.

  1. I have resolved to be kinder and more compassionate to everyone. I believe I have stuck with it so far. This book sounds fascinating. I suffered from domestic abuse in my first marriage. I am ashamed to say that my son had to witness things that no child should have to see. Fortunately by the time he was five, I found the courage to leave his father. I have finally gained self confidence and found self worth. I am looking forward to reading this book!

  2. My resolution for 2018 is to find a doctor who can find direct pain point to fix sciatic pain. Nearly two years of non-stop pain. First treatments haven’t worked, but I’m not giving up.

  3. I didn’t make any resolutions, I am trying to reduce the stress in my life and making a resolution would have been stressful for me.

  4. I decided I want to read and review more books to bless authors for their hard work and to let readers know about great books. Yes I am keeping my resolution and intend to for the entire year.

  5. I’ve learned not to make resolutions because I can’t stick to them. My last one was to make up a will, I had a whole year and never did it. I know it’s morbid but I have children to think of and I still don’t have one.

  6. I set a goal of watching less TV and reading more, and I have been really successful so far. The evidence is that our DVRs are full!

  7. Just Between us sounds amazing!! This new year I plan to drink more water. So far so good. May sound silly, but I need more water in my diet.

  8. My New Years resolution is to minimize. I have started in the smallest area and am working on getting to the bigger rooms. Very overwhelmed but will stick with it. In the end it will be so worth it. Thank you for the chance.

  9. my resolution was to take better care of myself, so i can continue taking care of others in my life who need me. i have stuck to it so far.

  10. My new year resolution is to be more productive: clean out the bonus room, rid myself of unwanted and unnecessary “stuff”,clean those baseboards, wash the windows in my house. So far, so good.

  11. I didn’t make any resolutions this year. I never keep them so why bother. Instead, I want to try to find something good in every day and acknowledge it to myself before I go to sleep each night. Not just for the new year but for always.

  12. My resolution was to get rid of all the unnecessary clutter, only keep what I truly love and also to make an attempt to read all of my tbr pile which just keeps growing and I know is probably hopeless.
