GREETINGS TO ALL “THOUGHTS ON THIS ‘n THAT” BLOG FOLLOWERS!
The HOLIDAYS are here we’ve decided to do something a little different. Over the next few weeks, we’re featuring some of our favorite authors and finding out what they like best about the HOLIDAYS. We’ll also find out what their latest book project is.
Today we’re visiting with bestselling author of Historical Fiction, Camille Di Maio. Camille recently left an award-winning real estate career in San Antonio to become a full-time writer. Along with her husband of twenty years, she enjoys raising their four children. She has a bucket list that is never-ending, and uses her adventures to inspire her writing.
She’s lived in Texas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and California, and spends enough time in Hawai’i to feel like a local. She’s traveled to four continents (so far), and met Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II. She just about fainted when she had a chance to meet her musical idol, Paul McCartney, too.
Camille studied political science in college, but found working on actual campaigns much more fun. She overdoses on goodies at farmers markets (justifying them by her support for local bakeries) and belts out Broadway tunes whenever the moment strikes. There’s almost nothing she wouldn’t try, so long as it doesn’t involve heights, roller skates, or anything illegal.
We look forward to reading Camille’s new novel, THE WAY of BEAUTY when it is published by Lake Union Publishers in May.
Vera and Alice—a generation and a world apart—are bound by the same passionate drive to fulfill their dreams. As first mother and then daughter come of age in-turn-of-the century, New York City, they’ll each discover that love is the only constant. by Lake Union Publishers.
In THE MEMORY of US, Julianne Westcott was living the kind of life that other Protestant girls in prewar Liverpool could only dream about: old money, silk ball gowns, and prominent young men lining up to escort her. But when she learns of a blind-and-deaf brother, institutionalized since birth, the illusion of her perfect life and family shatters around her. THE MEMORY of US was am Amazon bestseller and finalist for the Holt Medallion Award for Literary Excellence.
In BEFORE THE RAIN FALLS, after serving seventy years in prison for the murder of her sister, Eula, Della Lee has finally returned home to the Texas town of Puerto Pesar. She’s free from confinement—and ready to tell her secrets before it’s too late.
Camille took some time off of working on THE WAY of BEAUTY and answered a few of our Holiday questions.
CR: Favorite Holiday?
CDM: Christmas! I know, such an original answer. I aim to have my shopping finished and presents wrapped by now, so I can enjoy December without stress. I also observe the season of Advent leading up to it, so a calm December allows me to put my head and focus in the right place.
CR: Favorite present you’ve given?
CDM: When our three daughters were younger, they loved American Girls. One year, we opened presents and then left the house to go visit family. I slipped back into the house “to use the restroom,” but put final gifts under the tree – an American Girl for each of them. When we got home, they were surprised and excited all over again.
CR: Favorite present you’ve received?
CDM: I love the word “cozy” and all that it evokes, so I loved the year my husband brought me a wrap from Barefoot Dreams. It is crazy cozy and I can’t wait for the days when the weather is cold enough to curl up with it.
CR: Favorite holiday music?
CDM: I’m SUCH a fan of Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. I have an old Christmas DVD starring both of them. I love the soundtrack to the movie, White Christmas.”
CR: Favorite holiday meal and/or dessert.
CDM: File this one under Thanksgiving. I love-making turkey soup with my mom after our big meal. She makes the best soup. We make an enormous batch, freeze it, and relive the holidays every time I put out a batch and warm it up.
(Interruption for an extra question? Will you provide the recipe for all of us? I’m starving.)
CR: Message/wishes for 2018?
CDM: My wish for everyone is that they find and maintain peace and joy, and that they may find the reason and beauty in why they were created.
Thank you, Camille.
FYI: We’re giving several journals away to our blog followers, so they can start 2018 on a fresh page. Just tell us what your wishes for 2018 are. We’ll announce winners in the upcoming weeks.
