They built a life on lies.

A happily married couple in J.T. Ellison’s new novel, LIE TO ME (Mira) are hiding a secret. They appear the perfect couple, but inside lies an ugly truth.

Domestic noir is the rage today and Ellison takes a break from her bestselling police procedurals to join in. We readers are the lucky ones for her making this writing switchover.

Sutton and Ethan Montclair’s life is not as it appears. Both are successful authors, consumed by professional and personal betrayals. The huge Victorian mansion they’ve renovated and are envied for is a source of many outright fights. They seem to be made for each other, but the truth is another thing. Both love and hate each other, so intensely the police are often called to their homes because their fighting can be heard by neighbors.

One day Sutton disappears. She’s done this before, so Ethan isn’t that worried until he finds all of her personal items, wallet, passport, credit cards, private notebooks still there. As police start their investigation, the truth about their marriage begins to surface and things don’t seem to add up. Eventually Ethan is pegged a suspect by family, friends and the media, who camp out in front of his home, leaving him a virtual prisoner to drink away the days.

Ellison’s novel explores lies, betrayals, grief, jealousy … and murder. I got so caught up in the novel, I couldn’t wait to read the next page and see where the story was going. LIE TO ME kept me up one long night reading until the last page. I found myself satisfied by the surprising ending.

  1. I lied to protect my brother. He was an adult and I was 13. He was an alcoholic and I was covering for him. I finally told him last year about it and felt such relief to have it off my chest.

  2. I’m not a “liar” so I don’t have any big bad lies to share, just some fibs or white lies. But when my oldest son was little, he hated to go outside so I used to tell him that if he didn’t go outside and enjoy the sun then his skin would turn green.

  3. The only lie that I can think of was telling my little boys Santa Claus brought their presents on Christmas! I think a lot of us have told that lie 🙂 This book sounds so good, would love to win.

  4. I’m trying to think of a lie, I really am. I just don’t lie, not to my husband, not during job interviews, never. Wait, I’m sure I’ve lied about my weight. Yes, on my driver’s license. There you go.

  5. I’m not good at lying; so, I generally don’t. I might do a little white lie like telling my children that Santa and the tooth fairy was real until a certain age. If I don’t feel up to going to an event, I will say that I have a cold or am not feeling well.

  6. I am a horrible liar so I might tell a fib or two. Like telling a friend I like her new haircut or outfit. Of course there is the whole Santa and Easter Bunny fib.

  7. I really can’t think of any big lies, just white lies. I might say I like something when I really don’t just to please someone. That’s about it.

  8. I used to lie about going to school in my senior year. I would leave the house go to Perkins wait until my mother left for work. Then I would go home, stay there until it was time for my mother to get home. When school called and told her I wasn’t in school I told her they were mistaken and picking on me and I would never skip school.

  9. I’ve lied about a lot of stuff when I was younger especially to My Ex but that’s because he was a cheater and liar 1st. I really tend not to lie anymore except the little white lies to my kids like the candy store is closed etc. LOL
