“I wasn’t enough. I wasn’t a we. I was a me. A me, myself and I. And I was alone, laden with inadequacy. Embarrassment filled me.”

Elizabeth “Izzy” Lane is a separated, soon-to-be divorced single mother of Noah, living in the house she grew up in. In THE GOOD NEIGHBOR written by Amy Sue Nathan (St. Martin’s Griffin), Izzy and Noah can barely scrape by on her salary as guidance counselor at the local high school and soon-to-be ex-husband, Bruce’s minimum financial help. Her best friends Jade, Rachel and next door neighbor, Mrs. Feldman do their best to help out. But then things go from bad to worse, when Bruce loses his job, has no money for daycare, and leaves Philadelphia with his girlfriend to California.

That’s when things get really complicated! Her BFF, Jade offers her a job blogging about the scene and what’s hot in Philly for people over 40 on her blog – POP PHILLY. After realizing she’ll be making some much-needed extra cash, she agrees. First thing she does, is create “Mac,” her on-line guy! Soon Izzy and “Mac” are THEE most popular couple blogging! Everyone loves Izzy and “Mac” and their “relationship” sky-rockets Jade’s, POP PHILLY into another Internet galaxy!

“Secrets and lies change lies. And rarely in a good way.”

But when her friends, co-workers and family want to meet the mysterious “Mac,”  a guy in-real-life catches her eye, and someone suspects she’s a fraud, things begin to unravel and she’s forced to cover her lies with more lies. This is when Izzy wakes up to just how high the stakes are.

Amy Sue Nathan’s, “Izzy” is a character you’ll definitely like for how much she loves and cares for her son, but you’ll want to scream at her sometimes for the mistakes she makes. But they are the kinds of actions many of us make, especially when we find ourselves alone and trying to make it day-to-day. Sometimes the lies appear easier than the truth. THE GOOD NEIGHBOR is about real people and real life. Maybe not exactly yours, but you will relate to Izzy’s desire to do anything possible for her son, Noah.

For all things AMY SUE go to or to her twitter @ AmySueNathan   FYI: I don’t know how many of you read Amy Sue’s first novel, THE GLASS WIVES, but I did and I highly recommend it. So read THE GOOD NEIGHBOR and then get THE GLASS WIVES. Enjoy!

Thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy of THE GOOD NEIGHBOR for an honest review.

You can check out more of my reviews at and news about how you can get a copy of my novel, “Viewer Discretion Advised.” Have a great week.

  1. I still need to get a copy of The Glass Wives. I have it on my wish list. The Good Neighbor looks like a great book, and I look forward to reading it.
